With just six weeks until this year’s Discovery Trail Challenge, it’s time to choose your Challenge.
Will it be an 18-mile walk, mainly along the Cornish side of the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’s long-distance route?
Or would you rather form a team of 4 or 5 and walk just a few miles each as part of a relay?
Sam Barnes from the Tamar Valley AONB team says, “We know that walking 18 miles is a challenge for some, so this year we are offering an additional option of doing the Discovery Trail Challenge as a relay team.
Sam continues, “The route from Calstock to Lifton is easily broken up into sections with the usual checkpoints in between. Why not get together a team and take on a section each to raise money for this year’s charity, CHICKS?”
The sections are:
Calstock Quay to Gunnislake Newbridge – 4 miles
Gunnislake Newbridge to The Royal at Horsebridge – 5 miles
The Royal at Horsebridge to Milton Abbot church – 4 miles
Milton Abbot church to Kelly House – 2.5 miles
Kelly House to Lifton (location TBC) – 3 miles
OR Milton Abbot church to Lifton – 5.5 miles
The entry fee will remain at £20 per team (maximum of 5 per team). There is no minimum sponsorship that you have to reach.
The Discovery Trail Challenge will take place on Saturday 2nd July.
Along the trail there will be refreshment stops, First Aid stations and transport at the end to take walkers back to Calstock after the walk.
CHICKS is a national children’s charity providing free respite breaks to disadvantaged children from all over the UK. The charity has retreats in Devon, Cornwall and Derbyshire.
