As we count down the days until the official opening of the new Tamar Trails Centre, near Gulworthy, at the end of the month, and a celebration of the end of the Tamar Valley Mining Heritage Project, we are looking for people who can help with a number of jobs, to ensure the Centre and Trails are at their very best.

The Tamar Trails will be opening fully on 28th March at the start of the Tamar Valley Spring Trail Festival. With this in mind there are a number of areas that need some tidying up: strimming, minor fence repairs, cutting back overhanging branches, gully clearing etc
On Tuesday 19th March, Dave Readman (walks coordinator, Tamar Valley) will be doing a full check of the Trails using the Tamar Valley AONB truck and a good kit of tools. If you’d like to join Dave, a full tour can be done, and any minor work found can be dealt with.
On Saturday 23rd March the last bridge on the Trails is being installed at the Tavistock Canal portal above Morwellham: a magical spot in the woods where the canal flows strongly from its stone tunnel into the leat system that traverses this side of the valley. Alistair Guy will be installing the bridge and would appreciate some help with fitting some of the timber deck boards and balustrading. This will create the final link of the new path between Morwell Rocks on the old Morwellham railway trail from Devon Great Consols, to Maddacleave, Newquay and beyond to link up with the course of the old Tavistock railway and on to Bere Alston. We may also help to finish the nearby Sheepsridge path with some step building .
On Wednesday 27th March we have the last opportunity to finish any outstanding works around the Trails before the opening, so meet again at the Trails car park so we can head off to deal with any final issues.
We hope you can make it on one or other of these dates. If you can only spare a few hours on a date please let Dave know so you can meet up on site if that would be more suitable.
