Get set for a great FREE day out, full of fun & fresh air, at this spring’s Tamar Valley BioBlitz.

Join the Tamar Valley AONB team as they return to Pentillie Castle & Estate, St Mellion, on Sunday 3rd May, to search for all the crawls, flutters, slithers and swims.

Join in with hunts for mammals, bugs & reptiles, pond activities, ash tree tagging and search for ancient trees in this inspirational setting. For early risers, don’t miss the Dawn Chorus starting at 6am, with Dave Scott, Licensed Bird Ringer for the British Trust for Ornithology, and Simon Bates.

You don’t need to be an expert, as naturalists, scientists and volunteers will be on hand throughout the day to help you find and identify all forms of life within the gardens.

Sam Barnes, Helping Hands for Heritage Project Officer from the Tamar Valley AONB team, says; “Our BioBlitz days are always a highlight in our events calendar. Not only are they great fun, but they also help us to understand more about the state of our environment, by finding as many species as possible in a set location and time period. The more the merrier, so please come along to help us discover the natural life at Pentillie.”

BioBlitz_DragonflyThe BioBlitz, a free wildlife event for all ages, has been made possible through the Helping Hands for Heritage project*.

Come along and join in the fun on Sunday 3rd May, 10:00am until 4:00pm (last entry 3:00pm). Activities will be running throughout the day, and a walk to the mausoleum with Ted Coryton from Pentillie, will take place at 2:00pm. Refreshments will be available courtesy of Pentillie Castle. A Bat Walk will also take place on the evening of Saturday 2nd May, 8:00pm – 10:00pm at Pentillie, with Paul Diamond from Cornwall Bat Group.

Places are limited for this event, and advance booking is essential. Please book early at www.tamarvalley.org.uk/bioblitz2015 or call the AONB team on 01822 835030. For the Bat Walk, please call 01822 835030.
