Cleave Woods_15 April Woodland plant identification day at Cleave Woods

Join the Tamar Community Trust next month for a day of forest fun at Cleave Woods on the Bere peninsula.

The historic woodland is the perfect place to enjoy a family picnic, join a guided walk or get involved in forest school activities, all taking place on Saturday 16th July.

Gretta Madigan from the Tamar Community Trust says, “Cleave Woods is a very special community asset for all to enjoy. Come along and meet our existing team of dedicated volunteers and find out how you can get involved in helping us manage this magical woodland, home to a whole host of wonderful species.”

Between 11am and 1pm the volunteers will be on hand to talk about the work involved in managing the woodland. Visitors can learn about cutting their own logs. Enjoy your family picnic from 1pm-2pm, then join a guided walk around the woods, discovering its natural and mining history, before trying your hand at forest school activities that may include a mini beast hunt, crafts, games and den building. The day ends at 4pm.

Cleave Woods, open to the public at all times, is just one of three sites within the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that the Tamar Community Trust manage. Together with Wacker Quay in south east Cornwall and the Tamar Trails in West Devon, regular maintenance and awareness raising activities are organised to keep these special areas at their very best.

Everyone is welcome, no need to book, but for further details please contact Gretta Madigan on 01822 840081 or email grettamadigan@gmail.com. Cleave Woods entrance is near Weir Quay, on the lane from Bere Alston. Please park considerately on the roadside (sat nav PL20 7BT, grid ref SX436651).
