Calstock Limekilns Canter

Title: Calstock Limekilns Canter
Location: Meet at Cotehele Quay on the top of the southern limekilns
Description: Calstock Footpath Society Walk, in conjunction with the Cordiale Project.
A six-mile walk on footpaths and roads from Cotehele Quay to Gunnislake Newbridge, led by Stephen Docksey. One steady climb from Okel Tor to Calstock Church. We should reach Calstock town by 1pm and Newbridge by 4pm. The full walk is not obligatory.

The Edgcumbe will be open for coffee/tea at 10am. Bring your own refreshments or patronise the pubs in Calstock.

A minibus is being arranged by the project officer to meet the train from Plymouth, arriving Gunnislake 9.26, and to collect the weary at Newbridge to connect with the 17.29 from Gunnislake and to return the carbound to Cotehele Quay. Places on the minibus will need to be booked with the project officer, Samantha Barnes, 01822 835032.

The intention of the walk is to discuss the background history, practice and purpose of limeburning in the parish. Since the details of the walk are still in their draft form (this is someone else’s project!) note will need to be taken AONB press releases and posters nearer the date.
