Apple Tree Summer Pruning Course

In spite of the fact that what seemed to be a bumper apple season with the best blossom seen for many years, it would appear that the cold weather has interfered with the fruit setting and growers have some concern upon how much fruit they will eventually harvest.

However, the management of orchards is still very important and on Sunday 21st July, from 10am-1pm, a Summer Pruning Course will be held at an orchard within the Tavy valley near to Denham Bridge.

The course, organised by the Tavy & Tamar Apple Group, will be led by apple expert Charles Staniland, who always ensures that it is a “hands-on” session. Charles has run many similar courses in West Devon over the last ten years.

Participants will learn the art of summer tree pruning where the aim is to enhance fruit production and manage the trees in a sustainable method.  Those attending should wear suitable strong clothing and boots or strong shoes and are invited to bring any suitable tools, which they have, with them.

The cost is £14.00 (members of Tavy & Tamar Apple Group – £10.00). Further details and bookings may be made with Anne Crozier, tel: 01822 840270, email
