With just two weeks to go until the Tamar Valley AONB officially celebrates 20 years since designation of their special landscape, the team that care for the AONB are delighted to announce that local naturalist, John Walters, will join in the celebrations.

On Sunday 30th August, a day of celebration and family fun will be held in the grounds of the Tamar Valley Centre at Drakewalls, near Gunnislake. Everyone is invited to this FREE event between 10am and 4pm for craft activities, animal encounters, music from The Rubber Band, bug hotel building, local food, walks and much more.

John Walters, who recently appeared on BBC1’s The One Show, will lead a mini BioBlitz allowing families to get up close to all that slithers and crawls and discover more about our natural world.

Cornwall-based MP and Minister of State for Defra, George Eustice, said, “I am delighted that the Tamar Valley AONB has reached its twentieth year which is an important milestone.  It is crucial that we protect our natural environment and landscape and AONBs have an important role to play in delivering our policy in these areas.”

A free shuttle bus will operate from pick-up points in the local area throughout the day, to minimise congestion and disruption to local residents. A timetable can be viewed at www.tamarvalley.org.uk nearer the time.

This day of celebration is the culmination of a 5-day Tamar Trail Festival, packed with over 30 events and activities for all to enjoy throughout the Valley, from 26th-30th August. Pick up your free programme from local outlets now, or view online at www.tamarvalley.org.uk and click on the link.
