Many local groups and individuals are involved in supporting the Tamar Valley Mining Heritage Project in different ways; helping with historical information and oral history; conservation volunteering; providing geology and mining information; raising ecological awareness; volunteer trail wardens and trail testers; checking the accessibility of trails and information; creative input into interpretation and telling the stories of the Tamar Valley….and much more.

Plymouth Mineral & Mining Club was founded in 1970. Having a membership of around a hundred, it organises visits throughout Devon and Cornwall, but enjoys a ‘special relationship’ with the Tamar Valley!
Eight to ten field trips are typically run between March and October, with three summer ‘Evening Rendezvous’, which are intended to be social events with a mining flavour rather than heavy technical sessions or stonking walks! Indeed, the expression ‘mining flavour’ is most appropriate, as one of the events is a barbecue (please note – all the jokes about ‘rock’ cakes being on the menu have been done!)
A sixteen page A4 format Journal is published three times a year. This includes original material written by members, reports of past Club events, items from the press relating to local mining and the re-publishing of older or little-known material. For further information on the PMMC, go to their website: http://www.geocities.com/dolcoath/Pmmcpage.htm

Woodland Riders Downhill Mountain Bike Club
The Woodland Riders is a Downhill only mountain bike club based near Tavistock in the South West of Devon. The Club was formed in 2005 as a way to raise the money needed to pay the landowner the rent, which would allow us to legally ride in the area. The money raised from the membership fees also goes towards insurance and affiliation with the British Cycling Federation. As a result you MUST BE A MEMBER to ride here, or have permission from a member of the committee.
