The Tamar Valley has something for everyone - from walking, cycling, horse riding, boating and fishing to shopping, eating, sight-seeing and visiting historic houses and gardens. Find out more below.  A new set of leaflets have been produced by the Tamar Valley Tourism Association (TAVATA) giving information on places to visit and things to do in the area.

The six leaflets are: Places to Eat; Places to Visit & Things to do; Explore the Tidal Reaches of the Tamar Valley; Local Arts & Crafts; Gardens and Nurseries; Callington, Launceston, Saltash and Tavistock.

From canoeing on the Tamar, visiting an exhibition and exploring local towns and villages to enjoying a cream tea, a pub lunch or a five course meal at a top restaurant - the leaflets are full of information for residents and visitors alike.

The leaflets are available at many local outlets throughout the Valley and can also be obtained from the Tavistock Tourist Information Centre, the Tamar Valley AONB office or you can view them on TAVATA's website at www.tamarvalleytourism.co.uk the site also contains a comprehensive list of accommodation in the area.


Recreation

There is so much to see and do in the Tamar Valley and many ways to explore the area.

Walking, cycling, horse-riding, sailing, canoeing and river cruises are just a few of the ways to get around. You can also take a train along the Tamar Valley branch line to appreciate the beauty of this scenic journey from Plymouth, through Bere Alston, Calstock and on to Gunnislake.
