Cordiale – Woodfuel and hedges

Woodfuel Potential

The auditing of small, largely unmanaged, woodland and hedgerows for Woodfuel is a relatively new concept for which there is little past methodology to draw on.

The most advanced auditing work available in the UK from the Forestry Commission is based on measurement of well managed high-forest stands. Work in Brittany and Normandy in recent years has been used to inform some of our work as has various information from the F.C. and the Biomass Energy Centre.

Through the Cordiale project research has primarily resulted in the formulation of farm Woodfuel auditing “toolkits”, these include;

  1. Community Supported Woodlands and Hedges – Woodfuel and other benefits from small woodlands and hedges
  2. Woodfuel Toolkit for land agents
  3. Woodfuel Toolkit for landowners
  4. Woodfuel Toolkit to help obtain more accurate quotations for wood boiler installation

Other tool kits for woodfuel are available on the Landscapes for Life website
