TAMAR TRAIL FESTIVAL 2008
17 October - 2 November
UPDATE: Please note that the Autumn Woodland Bird Walk on SUNDAY 2nd NOVEMBER (9am) has been cancelled. We're very sorry for any inconvenience. Please keep an eye on our events calendar for future walks and talks.
The Tamar Trail Festival will be celebrating access to our Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with more than 70 events and workshops for all ages and abilities. For two weeks, you are invited to get out and about with rambles, rides and rail routes…mini-beast safaris and heritage trails…health, Halloween and history walks…motor trials, river cruises and children's workshops...plus much more.
Don't let the autumn weather stop you from enjoying the outdoors - join us for a celebration of access to this wonderful landscape!
The Tamar Trail Festival 2008 will offer a sneak preview of some of the new trails network, created as part of the Tamar Valley Mining Heritage Project, as well as showing-off the stunning landscape right on our doorsteps and bringing together a range of events from groups, clubs and organisations across the area.
See the Festival Programme here. Or pick up a copy of the Autumn/Winter edition of The Valley – the AONB’s free bi-annual newsletter – which also contains the programme of events. The Valley is due out at the beginning of October from the AONB office at Cotehele Quay or from local outlets. If you would like any extra information, please call 01579 351681.
Tim Selman, AONB Manager commented; “This is the AONB’s first Trail Festival and we have an amazing 74 events in two weeks, so there’s something for everyone! We hope that it’s a chance for everyone to get out in the countryside. There really is something to suit most people, from spooky trails for kids, genteel garden tours, river cruises, boatbuilding or more active pursuits”.
Morwellham Quay, part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site, will also host many walks and workshops – allowing everyone to explore the trails on a site teeming with archaeological, cultural and natural history. Much work has been undertaken at Morwellham to enhance and reinstate this ‘living museum’ as part of the Tamar Valley Mining Heritage Project.
The Tamar Valley Mining Heritage Project is one of the biggest and most ambitious projects ever undertaken by the AONB. Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, plus many other funders and organisations, the project will provide around 35km of safe and enjoyable access to places in the Valley where there has previously been none. The new trails network is an eagerly awaited part of the work, and the trails are due to be fully opened in the near future, once final health and safety work has been carried out.
