Exhibition entitled ‘The Phoenix Arises’ concentrates on the fire and the restoration, the Callington Fire Service and past serious fires in Callington. There will also be on-going displays on the 100th anniversary of the passenger train service and the school on the Saltash Road site as well as 80 years of the Old Cornwall Society.

    • Visit to Cornish Orchards Processing Plant (Duloe, nr Liskeard), 7th, Wednesday, 10:30am - 12:30pm
      Visit a large traditional producer of apple juices, cider and mulled wine whilst the production is taking place.   Andy Atkins, Managing Director, will personally lead the tour and explain the complete process to tour members.
      This company supplies the Eden Centre and a major Tavistock shop and also buys apples from local orchards.
      Notes: organisers welcome those who share cars and with this in mind (unless a participant objects) a list of those attending will be circulated to all so that people living in same area can share transport if they so wish.

    • Festival of Dartmoor Literature, 9-11 May
      Tavistock is the host town for a unique Festival of Dartmoor Literature, marking the 10th anniversary of The Dartmoor Society. It will explore 400 years of high quality poetry, novels and plays by writers who have been inspired or influenced by Dartmoor. Speakers and performers include Roselle Angwin, Mark Beeson, Maggie Clark, Tania Crosse, James Crowden, David Stuart Davies, Nick Groom, Lilian Harry, Michael Jecks, Bernard Knight, Pat Milton, Bill Murray, Alice Oswald, Tim Pears, Salley Vickers, Kate Walker and Marcia Willett.       Learn to prune - a hands-on course with expert tuition.  This mainly practical day will give you the confidence to tackle your trees and will cover the pruning of neglected trees, formative pruning of younger trees and routine requirements.
      Notes: Outdoor clothing, strong boots, gloves and a packed lunch will be necessary.  Bring any useful pruning tools, secateurs, saws, etc.  No climbing required.
