There is now a Friends organisation for the Tamar Valley. They meet at the Tamar Valley Centre on the first Friday of the month at 7.30, and both members and non-members are welcomed. Various talks have been organised.
To join the Friends of Tamar Valley the cost is £15.00 per couple, and £8 for a single person, with members paying £1.00 per meeting, non members £2.00. Membership will entitle you to join in all the meetings and social events in the summer. It is hoped that there will be a chance to help the staff of the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) with various projects and voluntary work that they undertake from time to time. There has recently been an orchard survey which some members helped with and which proved very interesting.
Membership will entitle you to a twice year newsletter, and a free copy of the highly acclaimed Tamar, which has been published for many years and is full of interesting articles on the Tamar Valley.
If you would like more details, please contact the Chairman, John Chilvers on 01752 339637 jandc.chilvers@tiscali.co.uk , or the membership secretary, Anthony Lewis on 01752 671356 calewis@plymouth.ac.uk for an application form.
Tamar Journal is published annually and contains articles and features for those living both locally and nationally who have an interest in the industrial past of the Tamar valley. Back issues are available from the Tamar valley Centre, please contact rlumbis@tamarvalley.org.uk for more information. You can download the contents to all past issues to determine which will be most useful to you!
This is a very new venture and we need people with a passion for the Tamar Valley to come and join us so that we can all get to know and love the area even better.
